Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 6, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Lectorist handles information when you use our website and mobile app. Lectorist is a reading companion for language learners. It helps you read real content, translate words when needed, and build vocabulary from the words you meet while reading.
Our Privacy Approach
Reading history, imported content, translated words, sentence examples, and vocabulary progress are personal learning data. Lectorist is designed to avoid unnecessary accounts, prefer local storage where practical, and use online services only for features that need them, such as fetching RSS content, translating words, or future sync features if you choose to use them.
Information You Provide
You may provide information such as your email address when you contact us, request support, or ask to receive product updates. If the app later offers accounts, subscriptions, or sync, we may collect the information needed to provide those features.
Learning Data
Lectorist may store and process learning data created through your use of the app, including reading history, selected or saved content, imported documents, pasted text, RSS sources, translated words, sentence context, tap history, language settings, reading preferences, and vocabulary progress buckets such as collected today, remembered quickly, starting to stick, and part of your vocabulary.
Local Storage
Where possible, Lectorist stores your reading and vocabulary data on your device so you can read offline and access your vocabulary locally. Data stored on your device may be removed if you delete the app or clear app data through your device settings.
Online Features
Some features require an internet connection. For example, Lectorist may connect to online services to fetch RSS feeds, retrieve linked reading material, translate selected words or phrases, process imported files when local processing is unavailable, provide customer support, or support future optional sync. When an online service is used, the information needed for that feature may be sent to that service.
How We Use Information
We use information to provide the reader, translation, vocabulary tracking, RSS, document import, progress, settings, support, and other app features. We may also use information to troubleshoot issues, improve app reliability, understand which features are working well, send product updates when requested, maintain security, and comply with legal obligations.
Analytics and Diagnostics
We may use privacy-conscious analytics or crash reporting tools to understand app performance, diagnose crashes, and improve reliability. We do not use analytics to create a social profile of you or to turn your reading activity into an advertising profile.
Sharing Information
We do not sell personal information. We may share information with service providers who help us operate the website or app, such as hosting, email, support, analytics, diagnostics, translation, RSS, file processing, payment, or future sync providers. We may also share information when required by law, to protect rights and safety, or as part of a business transfer such as a merger or acquisition.
Third-Party Content and Services
Lectorist may let you read content from RSS feeds, imported files, pasted text, or other sources you choose. Those sources and any third-party services used to retrieve, translate, or process content may have their own privacy practices. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of websites, publishers, or services that we do not control.
Data Retention
We keep information only for as long as needed to provide Lectorist, maintain your reading and vocabulary experience, communicate with you, meet legal requirements, resolve disputes, and protect the service. Locally stored learning data remains on your device unless you delete it in the app, delete the app, or clear app data through your device.
Your Choices
You can choose what content to read, import, save, or translate. You may be able to delete reading items, vocabulary entries, or local app data inside the app or through your device settings. You may contact us to request access, correction, or deletion of personal information we control, subject to applicable law.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
International Use
If you use Lectorist from outside the country where our service providers operate, your information may be processed in other countries. Those countries may have data protection laws that differ from the laws where you live.
Children's Privacy
Lectorist is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
